Summary
Under the general supervision of the Service Manager, the Field Service/Automation Technician is responsible for diagnosing and repairing electro-mechanical issues, programming and troubleshooting robots, and maintaining automated systems. This role requires both independent work and collaboration with project teams, ensuring equipment is installed, maintained, and optimized for performance. The position involves travel (up to 25% annually) and requires flexibility for potential night and weekend work.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications manuals to assist in troubleshooting.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues using advanced troubleshooting skills and technical drawings.
- Program, modify, and troubleshoot robots from various industrial robot manufacturers (ABB, Fanuc, Kuka).
- Plan and develop offline robot programs using 3D simulation software.
- Modify and troubleshoot PLC control systems as needed.
- Verify and adjust robot path programming, I/O, and logic for optimal performance.
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules and complete detailed service reports and related paperwork.
- Conduct on-site modifications to robot and control systems.
- Follow-up and support customer automation systems both remotely and on-site. Follow up with customers and internal departments to ensure issue resolution.
- Ensure familiarity with and adherence to electrical industry codes, including NEC, ANSI, NFPA, and OSHA standards.
- Understand and apply knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and machine tools in assembly.
- Maintain compliance with safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Travel as required for service calls and installations (up to 25% annually).

- Strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
- Experience in PLC programming and robot control systems.
- Familiarity with industrial robot operations and maintenance.
- Knowledge of relevant industry codes (NEC, ANSI, NFPA, OSHA).
- Ability to work independently or as part of a project team.
- Must have a personal set of tools.
- Strong communication skills for working with customers and internal teams.
Education and/or Experience
- Associate Degree in Automated Systems Technology field; equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- 3+ years’ experience in automation systems activities
- Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) is helpful
- Experience with Industrial Robot Programming is required
- Knowledge of common control, computer architecture, and networking
