Project summary
MWES provided a firm with calibration stations as part of a manufacturing line for ventilator valve assemblies for a healthcare application.
The Challenge
During the COVID-19 pandemic, ventilators were in critically high demand by hospitals worldwide. That demand put a stain on healthcare equipment manufacturers. However, manufacturing medical equipment is a delicate and precise process, and automating any part of that has to be exacting. The ventilators have to perform flawlessly and to ensure that the individual components of those ventilators are calibrated correctly, specific testing systems are required during assembly.
The Solution
MWES provided our customer with six critical workstations for testing valves as part of a ventilator assembly line. Each workstation consists of a rack cabinet enclosure and housed inside it are the pneumatic and electrical controls, as well as a PC and monitor equipped with diagnostic software provided by the customer. Mounted on the cabinet are the valve calibration fixture and a workbench. The ease of use of this station allows an operator to perform the necessary tests accurately and efficiently.
Impact to the Customer
The workstations MWES provided our customer allowed them to perform the calibration tests quickly and accurately on the assembly line for this critically important clinical accessory. The ventilators helped save lives during a pandemic and critical shortage of healthcare equipment.
